The Lent Bumps - Thursday 2009

1st Women's Lent VIII - Bumped Clare at First Post!

Got the result we needed but not our best rowing. Get ready for a hard race tomorrow! Jonathan - like the 'legs/timing' call. D

Strong but some fairly special rowing... Lots to improve on (at least I remembered to come forward today!) but bring on tomorrow! Mills x

2nd Mens Lent VIII - Bumped FaT 3 along reach

A great result, we came out with a great mental attitude, especially as the row down wasn't perfect. For sure, there is a good deal more to come from the racing. After a mediocre start, we started to reel them in around the bends at grassy and ditton. And for much of the reach we sat at 1/2 a length. After some great coxing from Emily we broke them on the second half of reach for a well earned bump.

When we put together the technique in our first bump, and the determination from our second bump, then we will feel like we're really moving the boat. Bring on Emma 2 on Friday!

This was a pivotal race, and we were nervous/excited about it. Not only did we have a nippy FAT3 crew ahead of us but we were being chased by a strong Selwyn m2 crew. Fortunately we achieved an awesome row which we should all be proud of. Once again the start was scrappier than we're used to and it took a while for us to settle and compose ourselves. After the motorway bridge Emily called one of her many Legs 10 and this really helped focus our minds and determine our efforts. We were gaining steadily all the way along and our fitness proved itself. By the reach we still had lots to give whilst FAT3 were tiring, although a bit bumpy when we came around Ditton into the wind we soon settled into the kind of rowing we do best: a slightly lower rating but with lots of power on every stroke. As Justin would say the boat had superb 'send'. About halfway down the reach we were getting more and more whistles and Emily called a Legs 10 push, the power we laid down here was enormous and we subsequently bumped. Selwyn gained a little on us near the start but rarely threatened us. £2.50 each for celebrating early? I think it was worth it.

1st Mens Lent VIII - Bumped Churchill 1 at Ditton

Another perfectly executed race from the crew today. We knew that we easily had the ability to bump Churchill and thats exactly what happened. Our start was solid and we found a tidy, relaxed rhythm coming down the plough. We got our first whistle on Churchill in the Gut.

We knew that our superior fitness would easily break them, so we just kept doing what we had been doing. This resulted in getting three whistles on the approach to Ditton, while Kate took a fantastic line forcing a rather meaty concession (our 4 man decided to try to take the catch into their cox's back - sorry!). A bloody ruddy good day in my book! Ed

3rd Mens Lent VIII

No-one from this crew has written a race report yet.
