| 1st Men's Lent VIII - BUMPED Trinity Hall | |
Weather conditions had taken a turn for the worse today, with all divisions rowing out into conditions that would normally have seen at least a yellow/red flag. We were chasing Tit Hall - Caius - Clare. Emma behind posed no threat, as we had quickly bumped them yesterday. Therefore, all focus was on bumping Tit Hall. We had discussed our race plan, with the intent to look for the bump coming out of grassy. However, an excellent start into the rapid stream and a strong head wind saw us take 1/4 length straight away. We then held this distance as Tit Hall went off aggressively, slightly closing the distance between themselves and Caius. However, Caius put in a strong row to bump Clare about First Post. At about 1 length between us, Tit Hall took a wide line around the Caian blades. Jon saw his chance, and quickly took a meticulous undercut line, coupled with a big push for '10' into the corner. Three strokes into this push, and suddenly half a length up, Jon called for the final push, and we rapidly ground them down as Tit Hall had to steer back in. A cracking finish to the race, with us going from 1 whistle to the bump in around 12 strokes! Chasing Clare tomorrow, who so far have moved down 3 places. Looking forward to finishing this bumps campaign on a high. |

| 2nd Men's Lent VIII - BUMPED Darwin M1, up to 14th in 2nd division | |
29 strokes apparently, we were solid, and they were just that bad. Based on the previous two days where Darwin failed to even make the motorway bridge, we knew all we had to do was to not be complacent. Our start was very good, got the first whistle into the wind, continuous whistles by the end of the legs 10. Our cox box cut out briefly from some splashing, but it didn't really delay the inevitable. For 6 rowers, it was their first bump. It felt a little hollow it has to be said, but I'm glad our attitude on the day was spot on. We weren't overly arrogant about it, sure we joked before the race, but in the boat we were focussed. |
