Spring Head to Head 2010


1st Men's May VIII - 1st in 1st May's Division

Conditions: strong upstream wind, giving us a headwind downstream and a tailwind upstream.

Time: downstream 6.28, upstream 6.20. Cumulative 12.48. Downing 12.51. Jesus 12.57.

As per last two races, Charles Adams stepped up to the mark to complete the VIII for this one. Downstream leg had a nice first half, though the crew found it hard battling the head wind. Blade work was tough, and resulted in a bit of an unsat boat. However, the crew held on firm, and pushed a solid row to the line.

Upstream we settled into a much better rhythm. Against the stream, but with the tailwind, we were able to push out a better time than our first leg.

The crew were very happy to have pulled a first from this row. Peter is now coming back into training, and we look forward to Poplar next weekend.

3rd Men's May VIII - 9th in 3rd Mays Division

A solid performance from the crew on the way down to the lock but we all knew that we could go faster, getting a time of 7:39 for the first leg.

Pembroke M3 had overtaken the team behind us and on the leg back put in big pushes to draw closer to us but the team responded very well and put in massive pushes when Rachel called for them and pushed off Pembroke M3 at the end. This led to a much better time of 7:20 for the second leg.

Overall a good race, beating Jesus III by 10 seconds which bodes well for bumps !
